Canada currently offers two immigration programs aimed at entrepreneurs and investors:

• The Start-Up visa
• Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program

The Start-Up visa

This fairly recent program allows innovative entrepreneurs to develop their business in Canada. To be eligible one must:

• Be at least 18 years
• Have completed at least one year post-secondary
• Have a Level 5 in one of the two official languages of Canada, either English or French
• Intend to start a business in Canada in the field of innovation
• Get a designated investment or with investors, a risk capital entity, or have the support of an incubator
Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Pilot Program

This pilot program allows investors wishing to move to Canada in any other province than Quebec if they comply with the following criteria:

• You must have a personal net worth of CDN $10 million or more
• You must be willing and able to make an at-risk investment (non-guaranteed) of CDN $2 million in the Immigrant Investor Venture Capital (IIVC) Fund for a period of 15 years
• Prove your proficiency in English or French
• Hold a secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree
